Pastels have a depth and richness to them that is unique. Begin with the fun of blending colors before moving on to defining shapes in a still life. You concentrate on the colors of each object, their relationship to each other and how applying colorss adds life and drama

Discover the subtleties of painting with water and pigment. Instruction with demonstrations of basic techniques and advancements at your own pace. Create still life paintings whil learning the principles of design and color theory.

This course focuses on the use of various techniques to create a painting. It will explore line, shapes, textures, themes and glazes. This course is intended to inspire creativity. Experience with acylics required.

DRAWING AND WATERCOLOR

 

Explore the possibilities of drawing and watercolor painting! If you want to paint realistically, it's appropriate to learn basic drawing techniques. Through exercises and demonstrations we will do both. Students will walk away with a new appreciation of both mediums and several finished pieces to show for it.

SILK PAINTING II

This class is for the beginning silk painter who is self taught or has taken a few silk painting classes in the past year using steam set dyes on silk. This course will cover the following techniques including; mono-printing, stenciling, and stamping using your own cut stamps and stencils. We will also review and use wet on wet, free flow, stop flow, salting, thickened dyes, and resist methods. Our goal in this class will be to paint and design a variety of silk scarves using all of the above techniques. (Includes some materials)

PAINTING OPEN STUDIO

Designed for the artist who has been painting with acrylics for a while and interested in further developing their own unique style. Students are invited to bring in previous work and cultivate a vision for where they want their art to go! Students will also go on field trips to local art shows.

STAINED GLASS

Learn the craft of leaded stained glass composition and creation. You create an original stained glass piece from your own drawings, while learning to pattern, cut glass, assemble, solder and finish your project. Your glass adventure begins here! Tools are for sale in SDAD's store.

Learn the basics of glass fusing construction. Explore fusing and slumping glass in the kiln to make both art pieces and functional ware. Create designs by layering sheets of glass, making patterns and using color.

OIL PAINTING & THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Unlock your creative mind! Learn how to open your creative process through oil painting. Deron teaches color theory, the elements & principles of design, and how to develop your own personal method for deciding what and how to paint. If you have some experience in oils or none at all with oil techniques, this class is for you! An open critique will also be incorporated into the class.

In this indoor landscape class you will explore the fundamentals of composition, color and value as the basis for painting successful landscapes. Students may do some outdoor sketches. Judith will show you some "tricks of the trade," also included in the class will be demos, critiques, and discussions of materials and techniques. The student needs a good knowledge of whatever medium they use.

LEARNING TO DRAW THE HUMAN FIGURE

Learning to draw the human form is an adventure! You learn to define the posture and mood of each figure pose through quick gesture drawings and longer poses. You become familiar with proportions and anatomy, but mostly the emphasis is on the intuitive quality of lines and shading techniques that give depth to the form.

Please register one week in advance. Includes model fee.

Have you ever wondered what shutter spee, aperture size, ISO settings, and depth-of-field all have to do with taking a picture? In this class you will learn how to crop an image, proper lighting, and how to capture what you see. Instruction includes weekly shooting assignments, class critiques, and discussions. A fully manual camera is required.

Come explore the fine art of textile design. You will learn several printing methods and create your very own t-shirt in the process. (Some supplies included.)

Explore the magical world of encaustic painting and discover a lost art that has intrigued painter for over 2000 years. Encaustic means "to heat or to burn" so heat is used at every level. During this four hour workshop you will learn the history of encaustic, safety practices, use of equipment and basic techniques including photo transfer, collage, and incising. You will have many opportunities to work and leave at the end of the day with many examples of your own encaustic art. All supplies are included

SILVER RING WORKSHOP

Create your very own ring from sterling silver. Exploring soldering and textures on sterling to create a unique design. By the end of the workshop you will be leaving SDAD with a ring on your finger!!Beginners and beyond welcome. All Materials included!

Learn to mix the colors you see and how to use basic pigments to make a rich variety of colors through experiments you can record and use for future reference. This workshop is an introduction to understanding basic color relationships. Good for all levels from beginners to advanced.

This one day workshop promises to be fun and rewarding. Students will spend the morning exploring some exercises from Bettty Edward's book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. In the afternoon you will review some unconventional watercolor techniques and produce a painting using the methods learned throughout the day. (4 hour workshop.)
