COLOR, COLOR, COLOR

This class will introduce you to the basics of drawing using colored media. Bring the colored media of your choice and learn how to use it. Susan provides lots of individual instruction for all levels. Using a variety of themes, each section will begin with tools and materials. We will cover light and shadow, strokes, textures, composition, mixing color and a fun technique for each media. There will be one drawing session using the human figure.

DRAWING & WATERCOLOR

Explore the possibilities of drawing and watercolor painting! If you want to paint realistically, it's appropriate to learn basic drawing techniques. Through exercises and demonstrations we will do both. Students will learn a new appreciation for both mediums and several finished pieces to show for it.

INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED DRAWING

Drawing is an important tool in the development of a fine artist. A classically trained fine artist will share with you the universal rules of how to draw and develop your own unique style. Students will learn a variety of drawing techniques through individual instruction and class demonstrations.

Do you want to paint but need better basic drawing skills? Begin with drawing fundamentals - proportion, line, value, and negative space. Transitioning into painting, you will learn how to compose and begin a painting, mix colors, use brushes and handle paint. More advanced projects are given to returning students.

Discover the creative and technical versatility of acrylic painting. This course emphasizes experimentation with acrylic techniques as well as composition, color mixing and layering, color harmony, design and brush techniques. Acrylic II students will receive a review of beginning techniques by sharing the space with Acrylic I students. It will also include an assignment each night.

THE ART OF MOSAICS

Explore the basics of mosaic construction using a variety of materials, new and used. Please bring found objects such as glass, tiles, jewelry, shells, stones, etc. Throughout the course you will create several pieces to decorate your home. Includes materials for initial projects.

 

LEARNING TO DRAW THE HUMAN FIGURE

DEVELOPING THE ARTIST

This is a continuing class designed to assist and produce emerging artists. Each artist receives feedback on developing their unique visual voice and vocabulary. The class includes guest speakers, brief lectures on developing your art, field trips, demonstrations, exhibitions, marketing ideas and a whole lot of fun.(Pre-requisite Acrylic Painting I & II)

STAINED GLASS

Learn the craft of leaded stained glass composition and creation. You create an original stained glass piece from your own drawings, while learning to pattern, cut glass, assemble, solder and finish your project. Your glass adventure begins here! Tools are for sale in SDAD's store.

GLASS FUSING

Learn the basics of glass fusing construction. Explore fusing and slumping glass in the kiln to make both art pieces and functional ware. Create designs by layering sheets of glass, making patterns and using color.

PAINTING & THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Unlock your creative mind! Learn how to open your creative process through painting. Deron teaches color theory, the elements & principles of design, and how to develop your own personal method for deciding what and how to paint. This class is open to oil or acrylic painters.

Students will make a creative self discovery in this workshop that links watercolor expression with ournal writing. Students will learn watercolor techniques including: sketching, drawing, composition skills, brush strokes and color blending. Construct a written journal directly onto the painted the painted works by connecting Valentine themes generated in the watercolor pieces.

WOOD COLLAGE WORKSHOP

Create your own abstract or highly personal 3-dimensional art piece in this 4 hour workshop. Students will use repurposed, recycled materials incorporating small everyday objects into a funky, fun, and esthetically beautiful work of art. Cindy teaches you how to intuitively use the materials to create your ready-to-display work of art. All levels welcome.

BOOKMAKING

In this fun 4 hour workshop, students will learn basic bookmaking skills through demos, discussions, and projects. Learn various book binding techniques focusing on accordion folds and appropriation of other books to create your own artist journal or gift for a friend.
